Books on show

Even though I haven’t been keeping up my blog for a while, I have been busy making books, playing with book cloth and reading poetry with some outrageous women. More about that later. My most recent books are currently included in three exhibitions in Australia.

These books are the result of my contemplation on how all things change form and represent a continuation of this theme which I have been pondering for some time.

My miniature book (above) titled Seed Book (Fruit turns to Seed) is currently on display at Civic Library in Canberra, Australia as part of the Miniatures exhibition (below). The book measures 5cm x 5cm x 2.75cm.

Seed Book has also been chosen as part of Manly Library’s Artist’s Book prize this year.

The award is acquisitive. Works were selected and will be judged by Ben Rak and Dr Michael Hedger. Exhibition dates: Fri 31 March to Sun 2 April, 10am-4pm at the Creative Space, followed by a travelling exhibition of acquired works to Northern Beaches Council Libraries.

The other book on show is Blossom turns to Fruit (above), another, larger circular flower fold binding that also features digitally printed designs of native plants on handmade papers. It measures 12cm x 12cm x 3cm.

This book is in an exhibition titled Code X at Craft ACT in association with the 2017 Australian International Conference of Bookbinders to be held in Canberra next week.

Code X features ‘the best work of international bookbinders paired with the best work of Australia’s established bookbinders and ‘rising stars’ to change perceptions about the craft of bookbinding and to demonstrate how traditional craft skills can be used to produce dynamic and vibrant contemporary works.’
