creating beautiful journals and books

Word Tree

I have been dyeing paper today and my hands are stained green. I got inspired by the wonderful group of women at my book workshop yesterday. They belong to a local embriodery group and their skills, and talents  are vast. We had a lot of fun, they made some beautiful books and I learnt a lot from them.

A word tree I created as part of my exhibition for the local ArtFest. The theme is ‘Branching Out’. More information about the festival and exhibition soon.

Transformational design

I recently read The Transformation of Bartholomew Fortuno by Ellen Bryson. The brilliant cover design is credited to gary318 who turns out to be London based book designer Jonathan Gray.

Check out some of his other superb book designs via google images (including revamped covers for Roald Dahl’s stories  and Orwell’s 1984). Unfortunately his web page doesn’t seem to lead anywhere.

I love the tree. Can’t wait to see it up close at the exhibition.
