creating beautiful journals and books

Artists make books

Last Saturday a group of six talented women gathered in Ulladulla to attend a workshop on making books.
They brought with them many skills including creative writing, photography, painting, printmaking and collage with the intention of learning how to make books that will complement and extend their work. I demonstrated and showed examples of a number of basic  bindings and everyone made two single sheet books, a variety of concertina books and a single section pamphlet binding.
There was an icy wind outside but it was a flurry of warmth and activity inside. After a day of learning new skills, sharing ideas and a lot of laughter, everyone produced a number of beautifully constructed, attractive and useful books to take home with them.
Even our professional writer, who told us she hasn’t ‘a creative bone in her body’ made something she was happy with. Thanks for organising a great day Terry.
